Week of 8 Sivan, 5766 / June 4, 2006

Editor: Boruch (Bryan) Ellison

"…Do not imagine to yourself that you will be spared [by being] in the King's house more than all the other Jews. For if you will indeed be silent now, relief and rescue will rise up for the Jews from elsewhere, while you and the house of your father will be wiped out…".

Mordechai speaking to Esther, when she hesitated to risk her life in saving the Jews from their enemies (Esther 4:13-14).

(Just imagine what Mordechai would be saying today to those who don't participate in the PLO-defunding campaign to save lives, not out of fear of death, but simply for the sake of social acceptance and/or convenience!)

"Issues of World War III" Survey

"Should gambling be permitted in more states and cities?" Everyone — literally one hundred percent of respondents — answered that all gambling, particularly Vegas-style casinos, should be banned everywhere. Feelings were strong on the issue, and we can only excerpt a few notable comments here:

Factual Background:
As entertainment in all its myriad forms has overtaken and permeated our entire society, gambling has risen with it. Casinos, lotteries, sports betting — the varieties are endless, as is the income stream of many billions of dollars that fuel entire cities, subsidize the existence of pagan Indian reservations, and create public feeding troughs for public schools and other institutions.

In general, political forces have been pushing for greater and more widespread legality of all types of gambling. From its more limited background in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and Las Vegas, Nevada, the casino industry has spread to innumerable Indian reservations and now in cities all over the map. The growing money stream is simply too tempting for too many interests that would like to dip in, as we see the rising willingness of Americans to spend their money on what is, for customers, a losing proposition.

Gambling does not come without its negative consequences. Despite being fully legal in Las Vegas, it has historically been controlled by ruthless figures of organized crime, though we don't know the status of mafia control over casinos today (interestingly, this argues against the notion that legalizing drugs would somehow remove the gang and organized crime element). As noted by respondents above, gambling is also well known for destroying lives by becoming an addicting habit.

It also destroys the lives of non-gamblers. Sports betting, for example, creates enormous underworld pressures involving bribery and blackmail to induce athletes to "throw" their games (to lose deliberately). Or, conversely, it intensifies the competition to the point that athletes cheat, using steroids and other drugs just to win — and bringing with those chemicals their debilitating effects on health and life. In horse racing, which is pretty much entirely fueled by betting, jockeys are regularly being caught doping their horses with steroids and other hormones; that, together with over-driving the animals, can lead to episodes like the recent disaster in Baltimore in which a prizewinning racehorse suffered a double fracture to its hind leg just seconds into the race (news reports quoted the veterinarian as saying the horse, a Kentucky Derby winner, might have to be killed).

Why do people increasingly want to throw their money down the gambling hole? It's driven by a fantastic hope that the gambler can somehow "get lucky" and come out ahead, at a time when socialism (inflation of the money supply, taxes, bureaucratic spending, and massively burdensome regulations) are weighting down the economy and causing our standard of living to erode steadily. Today, the vast majority of Americans are deeply in debt just to preserve their former standard of living, and gambling provides a new, if distant, hope that a person will suddenly turn around his fortunes. In a normal, healthy, capitalist economy, gambling (and entertainment in general) just wouldn't have such a grip on people, and we wouldn't see the gambling industry growing everywhere.

Relevant Torah Principles:
1) Under the original Biblical Law, gambling (mentioned in Talmudic sources as encompassing all forms of dice-throwing games and betting on animal races) is allowed for both Jews and gentiles.

2) However, the rabbis saw fundamental problems with gambling, and so they banned it by rabbinical edict under their G-d-given authority to do so. They gave two reasons: (a) Gambling is essentially a form of theft, despite the agreement in advance of the loser-to-be, since the winner takes money in exchange for no goods or services (that is, if the future loser knew he was destined to lose, he wouldn't agree to play, and thus gambling is essentially involuntary), and (b) gambling is a form of entertainment, and all entertainment is a vain distraction from our work in carrying out G-d's mission. The rabbis ruled that an ongoing gambler (as opposed to one who does so only occasionally) cannot testify in court, for his testimony is considered invalid.

3) As a rabbinical edict, the ban on gambling isn't binding on gentiles. Biblically, it isn't considered a true form of theft, since, technically, all players have agreed ahead of time.

4) But the rationale behind avoiding entertainment, including gambling, does bear on the foundation of the Noahide Laws. Jewish sage Maimonides says it as follows (translation from the Hebrew is ours): "It is not appropriate for man to occupy himself throughout his days except with matters of wisdom and in the settlement [development] of the world" (Mishneh Torah, Laws of Theft and Loss 6:11). These words were directed at Jews, but they describe perfectly the core mission of gentiles under the Noahide Laws — namely, to learn G-d's Wisdom (through the study of Torah and of nature both) and, most importantly, to occupy and develop the natural world. Thus the essence of the prohibition on entertainment does show in what direction gentiles must strive.

5) Gentiles are permitted, or even encouraged (or, according to the Lubavitcher Rebbe, required in many cases) to observe more than the minimum of the Noahide Laws. Where aspects of Jewish Law, even of rabbinical edicts, provide proper guidance for the life of a Hasidic Gentile, he should imitate and incorporate those extra obligations. Since gambling has shades of theft, even though it technically doesn't cross the line into actual stealing, it is appropriate for gentiles to follow the Jewish example.

6) Under the Noahide Laws, a gentile government is empowered to make and enforce laws that are stricter than the minimal Noahide Code. Thus any government does have the authority to restrict or prohibit gambling, for example, on the same grounds that the rabbis cited in their earlier ruling.

Modern society, particularly in that part of the world shaped by Christian or Muslim culture, is by now sophisticated enough to spend its resources and energies on productive living rather than entertainment and diversion. Thus all gambling, which constitutes a horrible waste of vast economic resources, should be banned completely throughout the entire civilized world. And people should use their money that would have been spent on "Lost Wages," Nevada, on the urgent matters facing us today — such as the PLO-defunding campaign (with just the tiniest fraction of that volunteer time and money, we could have already destroyed the PLO and pulled the rug out from under terrorism worldwide). Money spent on tzedaka (charity or campaigns of good deeds) brings G-d's blessings of prosperity, the very opposite of the losses down the gambling hole.

But we must also address the modern obsession of entertainment, which serves purely as a diversionary escape from the rising difficulties of modern life. One of the leading underlying causes is the enormous burden of socialistic measures against the economy. In other words, by tying the money supply back to gold, by slashing government spending on useless programs by trillions of dollars, and by repealing the vast majority of damaging regulations and regulatory agencies, we could not only bring back the economy from the brink of disaster into the wealthiest productivity in history, we would also remove the escapist drive for gambling and other time-wasting entertainment.

The imminent coming of Moshiach (the Messiah) will accomplish these goals. But we can hasten and smooth the transition by promoting these values now.

And now for this week's survey question:

In a few weeks, Mexico faces a presidential election in which the newer PAN and PRD parties are in a close race and the older PRI is running third. How should Mexicans vote?

(1) For the PRD's Lopez Obrador.
(2) For the PAN's Felipe Calderon, successor to Vicente Fox.
(3) For the PRI's Roberto Madrazo.
(4) Other

Subversion Alert

This week:
An update on the phony "Sanhedrin"

At least two rabbis have resigned from the Moscow-controlled "Sanhedrin" over the subversion by agents of the Communist-front Root & Branch Association (R & B), and the "Sanhedrin" is scrambling to do damage control before its activities receive too much more exposure.

According to Rabbi Moshe Antelman, the Rav (rabbinical authority) and former "Sanhedrin" member who was smeared with anti-Semitic insults by R & B's spokesman Aryeh Gallin for protesting R & B influence on the "Sanhedrin," both he and a Rabbi Bar Yosef have since quit the phony "Sanhedrin" as it became clear to them that R & B was secretly running the entire show. (Incidentally, Rabbi Antelman confirms much of our information from the inside. "It is amazing what you know about the Sanhedrin," he writes.)

Rabbi Antelman reports that the Sanhedrin project was actually conceived a decade ago, and that he became involved four years ago. Nearly three dozen orthodox rabbis convened and named three individuals to form the core of the tentative Sanhedrin — Rabbi Antelman being one of those three. Apparently many of the founding rabbis were well intentioned.

But the fact that one of the three core leaders would now be pushed aside and overrun by a Marxist, subversive agenda (to the point that he and another rabbi saw no alternative to resignation) proves just how complete the Communist control over the now phony "Sanhedrin" really has become. Rabbi Antelman saw the R & B infiltration as surfacing with the appointing of Bar Ilan University Professor Hillel Weiss as public relations director of the "Sanhedrin"; Weiss is connected to R & B, and he helped bring its influence over the "Sanhedrin" to the forefront.

But one agent could never control a body of 71 rabbis by himself, nor do the Communists ever limit their infiltration so severely. If Weiss is able to pull influence, it is only with the help of numerous — at least dozens — of infiltrators inside the "Sanhedrin" and among its closest supporters. Nor could the infiltration have taken place so recently. Communist agents are today so ubiquitous that they would have known about the Sanhedrin idea when it first came up ten years ago, and you can be absolutely certain that quite a good number of Red infiltrators were involved with the project from its very beginning. The honest rabbis have been surrounded from the start, which is the reason they were completely steamrolled without having seen it coming. Several of Rabbi Antelman's closest associates for years have been such agents, though he doesn't seem willing yet to consider the possibility that he is being betrayed by some of his "friends."

Rabbi Antelman also reports that Rabbi Adin Steinsaltz, the Communist agent officially leading the phony "Sanhedrin," has since been replaced by R & B agent Rabbi Yoel Schwartz as head. Although Steinsaltz has direct connections to the Soviet KGB, by reputation he has been kept "clean" of R & B ties; Schwartz, on the other hand, continues his public affiliations with R & B, in addition to his own connection to Communist Bloc intelligence agencies. So by substituting Schwartz for Steinsaltz as leader, the phony "Sanhedrin" is tacitly admitting it is too badly exposed to continue its subversion without detection. Steinsaltz is being pulled away to protect his cover while the Moscow-controlled "Sanhedrin" begins to sink.

(Note: The underground Communist apparatus and its aboveground tentacles are actively engaged in subversion in all sectors and institutions of society today. Its agents would dearly love to know the full extent of our information, which would assist their disinformation efforts. Consequently, we do not divulge all our facts or sources. These profiles are intended only as a warning to the wise to monitor the individuals and groups exposed here, and to avoid their influence.)

Have Some Jewish Leaders Betrayed the Torah?

This week's example:
Rabbi Aharon Moshe Schechter, Dean, Yeshiva Rabbi Chaim Berlin, Brooklyn, NY

Rabbi Schechter was shown our PLO-defunding Proclamation last September 20th. Not only couldn't he argue with it at all, he frankly admitted it was correct — yet he still refused to sign. Confused, the JAHG-USA volunteer asked him why, but the rabbi just wouldn't say. "I know you're right," he said, but would neither sign nor explain himself.

As the Rosh Yeshiva (Dean) of the lower-division branch of a prominent non-Hasidic yeshiva, Rabbi Schechter occupies an influential but sensitive position. Having considerable Torah scholarship, he admits the JAHG-USA campaign and its Proclamation are correct according to Torah, but he's obviously afraid of the remote possibility of political repercussions. That's tragic. If his faith in G-d were a bit stronger, he would know that only blessings and no problems would result from doing his duty in support of saving lives.

If all the "refusenik" rabbis who privately support the JAHG-USA campaign to defund the PLO would overcome their fears, there would be almost no "refuseniks" left. Off the record, virtually every orthodox Jewish leader agrees with the campaign.

Terrorism Update:

The Arutz Sheva news organization — which pretends to be "right wing" but which has apparently been infiltrated by Israeli intelligence and subtly neutralized for years — continues to refer to PLO Communists as "Arabs," thus supporting PLO propaganda in creating confusion over just who is attacking Israelis and Arabs. The Arutz Sheva cooperation with Communists reached new depths of ridiculousness this week in its coverage of a pro-PLO demonstration in Tel Aviv. Arutz Sheva described the rally of about 500 people as having been organized by "various left wing organizations."

"Left wing," indeed! Days earlier, it was Arutz Sheva itself that admitted the organizing groups included the Israeli Communist Party and some of its fronts, and that the rally was coordinated with a parallel one in the West Bank organized by the PLO — in particular, by its main Fatah group (operating under strict control of the Soviet Russian KGB), by the Marxist Palestinian Liberation Front (PLF, supported by the Iraqi Baathists under Soviet Russian control), and by the Democratic Front for the Liberation of Palestine (DFLP) (an overtly Marxist-Leninist wing of the PLO coordinated by Libya, Iran, and Soviet Russia). Yet on the day of the rally, Arutz Sheva carefully limited its description to unnamed "left wing organizations" while continuing to label PLO terrorists as "Arabs" or "palestinians" rather than Communists.

The PLO depends heavily on its friends in sensitive positions of influence in Israel itself, especially among right-wing Jewish movements. Communist agents masquerading as "right wing" Jews can do far more damage than all the hundreds of Kassam missiles fired from the Gaza, keeping Israelis from demanding an end to PLO funding by diverting them onto tangential issues or causing Israelis to become pessimistic and defeatist.

Meanwhile, taking advantage of American apathy, the Soviet/ Red Chinese/ PLO war against Israel is continuing, funded by the Bush Administration. Here are your tax dollars at work over the last week:

This week's casualty count (not counting dead & injured terrorists):

The PLO-created myth of a "fight" between the PLO and its close ally Hamas is falling to pieces in light of recent events. For example:
  • The PLO and its main Fatah group, under Mahmoud Abbas, were caught sneaking money to Hamas.
  • Farouk Kaddoumi, a high-level PLO leader, publicly admitted the PLO fully supports its Hamas ally both politically and in its terrorist activity.
  • Red China is supporting both the PLO and Hamas, having invited both recently to a conference in Red China itself for coordinating Communist revolution throughout the Middle East.
  • Communist Egypt continues to support both the PLO and Hamas, which are coordinated by its Soviet-controlled intelligence agency, with money and weapons — including 11 tons of explosives, 10,000 military assault rifles, millions of bullets, Soviet-made Katyusha rockets, hundreds of rocket-propelled grenades, and several Soviet Strela surface-to-air missiles since last August.
  • Communist Egypt is proposing to re-occupy the Gaza Strip with its military forces, using the phony "fighting" between the PLO and its Hamas comrades as the official excuse. The proposal is, of course, supported by the PLO, which must always obey its Soviet and Egyptian masters.

Defunding the PLO automatically means its allies, including Hamas, would lose all ability to operate as well. And it would prevent the impending invasion of Gaza by Soviet-armed Egyptian forces, a prelude to the future invasion of all Israel by the Soviet Red Army and its Communist Bloc allies.

Many Jewish Leaders Are Helping the JAHG-USA Campaign

This week's examples:
Jesse Winer, Hadar HaTorah Yeshiva, Brooklyn, NY;
Rabbi Abba Piekarski, United Lubavitcher Yeshivos, Brooklyn, NY; and
Rabbi Yosef Losh, Cong. Lubavitch (770 Eastern Pkwy.), Brooklyn, NY

Not only did Jesse Winer sign the PLO-defunding Proclamation upon seeing it last August 16th, he enthusiastically wished us success in the campaign. At the time of signing last year, Winer was an administrator at the same Hadar HaTorah Yeshiva that I had previously attended for several months back in 1999-2000. Winer was working on getting his rabbinical ordination at the Central Lubavitch Yeshiva, and by now he may already be a rabbi.

Rabbi Piekarski, a teacher at the Lubavitch Yeshiva for boys, saw the Proclamation two days later, on August 18th, and signed on the spot. He thus joins dozens of his fellow teachers in endorsing the campaign.

Rabbi Losh was presented the Proclamation a couple of weeks after that, on September 3rd, and likewise gladly endorsed. He is one of four administrators of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's own synagogue, the worldwide headquarters of the Chabad-Lubavitch Hasidic movement in Brooklyn, who have endorsed the JAHG-USA campaign.

Isn't it time for you to get involved? Contact us for suggestions.

We need more volunteers to approach rabbis for endorsements of the PLO-defunding campaign. Whether your rabbi is Chabad, Littvoch ("misnagged"), modern orthodox, Sefardi, or with some other Hasidic movement, and regardless of what country he is in, you need to get his signature. E-mail us at newsletter@noahide.com for copies of the Proclamation and for information on how to approach your rabbi.

For a complete listing of all rabbis who have received our proclamation, the up-to-date status of their responses, and how you can help the campaign, visit ATTAC Report at http://www.attacreport.com/plo/.

Letters to the Editor

NOTE: We're still working our way through a long list of letters that have arrived in recent weeks. If you've sent us a question or comment, please be patient; we hope to get to it in the coming weeks.

(In response to our March 12, 2006, issue, where we discussed the non-risks of biological warfare):
"I get so much out of your potent newsletter. But this one was exceptionally informative.… It seems now that you [don't] want to coooperate with the propaganda of Public Health, but wouldn't be concerned with the injection [of a hepatitis vaccine]. Is this true?" — SW.

Our response: In our article, we explained the central difficulties behind the failure to find effective biological warfare agents. As scientific research has repeatedly confirmed over the course of decades, (a) microbes aren't terribly dangerous, and (b) genetic engineering doesn't work all that well. Consequently, natural germs don't generally kill healthy people (not even the most virulent ones, such as anthrax, Ebola, dengue fever, hepatitis, and others), and germs that are genetically modified in the laboratory are rendered defective and therefore even weaker.

That leaves Public Health radicals without a serious bio-warfare threat to scare us into accepting such emergency measures as United Nations-enforced quarantines, forced drug treatments, and forced mass vaccinations. (Not that the lack of a true threat stops the Public Health movement, which continues pumping out doomsday propaganda of imminent virus epidemics, etc.)

But what about those emergency Public Health measures? Granted they're ineffective against a non-existent threat, but do they pose their own hazards (aside from fanning public hysteria that can be politically manipulated)?

Much information has been published in recent decades on the safety or danger of vaccines. Some, such as the pertussis and "swine flu" vaccines, proved to be disasters that crippled or killed many patients. Others, such as the regular flu vaccine, seem to cause disease symptoms in a large fraction of recipients. Many have little or no record of causing injury or death, although worry still exists that they may cause illnesses at a level too low to have yet been detected.

Putting aside the larger question of vaccination in general, the point is that even in the case of little or no identified risk, if there isn't a danger against which to vaccinate, one mustn't expose oneself to unnecessary "treatments." The Torah clearly teaches that a person (Jew or gentile) is forbidden by G-d's Law to expose himself to needless risk or danger.

In the case of biological warfare, the threat is minimal to nonexistent, whereas the vaccines pose either known or potential risks that would become significant if administered to millions of people; the anthrax vaccine, for example, is medically controversial for its deadly "side effects." So vaccination is definitely more dangerous than bio-warfare itself, and thus would be forbidden by Torah as a needless risk — even though the majority, perhaps even the vast majority, of inoculated people wouldn't suffer injury. The fact that people would be in danger, no matter how small, is sufficient to avoid the useless bio-warfare vaccines altogether.

If you, however, have already been vaccinated (as have U.S. soldiers, to our understanding), you don't need to worry. If a vaccine does cause a deadly reaction, it'll happen within hours or days at most, and it will be explicit. Avoid the bio-warfare vaccines if you can, but thank G-d if you were vaccinated and survived; now you're fine — in spite of the vaccine.
