"Should natural land reserves be maintained for recreational purposes?" Nearly two-thirds of respondents opted for maintaining natural preserves (national parks, etc.) for the sake of recreational hunting and fishing; the remainder opposed preventing development for such purposes. There were some interesting comments, excerpted here:

Factual Background:
Environmentalism began about a century ago as a conservation movement. Led by such pro-Socialists as Teddy Roosevelt, the movement advocated preserving certain lands as national parks or monuments, primarily for the sake of recreational hunting, etc. (Roosevelt himself having been an avid hunter). As time passed, the environmentalist mask slowly came off and revealed its true ultimate objectives: A complete shutdown of the capitalist economy and productivity, along with an erasing of human civilization and human impact on the natural world. Today, environmentalists increasingly call not just for halting human expansion, but reversing it — to the point of demolishing dams and buildings, re-flooding former swamps, and making deserts barren once again.

But with the rising tide of political conservatism, there has been an equal backlash against environmental laws already passed. Multiple times in the last decade, Congress has nearly repealed the Endangered Species Act, and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) potentially faced having to justify its existence. Even President Clinton was afraid to sign executive orders locking up millions of acres of valuable land in national parks and monuments until literally his last day in office, and President Bush has been forced to use every possible delaying tactic to try to save Clinton's last-minute decrees from being abolished.

The Communists have always used infiltration of conservative or anti-Communist organizations as a fundamental tool of revolution. By worming their way into leadership positions as well as the rank and file membership, hidden Communist agents can redirect conservative reaction away from Communism into dead ends to neutralize it, or even to hijack conservative sentiments to support revolutionary goals. In fact, Communist objectives could almost never be attained without first taking control of their opposition. This strategy has been alluded to by first Soviet dictator Nikolai Lenin, testified by defectors from the Communist underground, occasionally boasted by Communist leaders, and confirmed in secret documents captured from Communists.

One of the leading conservative movements targeted by Communists has been the gun rights movement. About half the households in America own guns, in most cases either for self-defense from crime or for recreational hunting. As long as over 100 million Americans possess guns, it remains extremely difficult for Communists to launch the street revolution without risking its complete suppression by armed citizens.

So the Communists have aimed to neutralize pro-gun sympathies, especially by redirecting them to suit the Communist agenda. Already in the late 1970s, a well-organized rebellion inside the National Rifle Association (NRA) nearly brought to power leaders who aimed at turning the NRA into an environmentalist group. The coup narrowly failed at the time, but similar influences have gradually taken over nonetheless. Today, gun rights groups and hunters' organizations have started to take the lead in environmentalist lobbying, mobilizing their resources and members to counteract the growing anti-environmentalist sentiment in America. They are successfully slowing the exploitation of natural resources (oil, gas, etc.) and are fighting to maintain the staggering lock-up of land across the United States.

By redefining the purpose of gun ownership as being for hunting rather than local or national defense (as from armed insurrection and urban warfare, for example), the Left is simultaneously neutralizing the gun-rights movement while breathing new life into ecological radicalism. Leftist elements in the news media have recently been gloating over this total co-opting of some conservatives against other conservatives.

Relevant Torah Principles:
1) While the 613 Biblical commandments of Jewish Law apply only to Jews and are not binding on gentiles, the universal covenant of 7 Noahide Laws (encompassing the essentials of as many as 200 to 300 of the Jewish laws) applies to all gentiles, of all nations and times. Any nation that does not change its traditions to follow the Noahide Laws will ultimately be judged and broken — or altogether destroyed — by G-d. He is merciful, providing numerous opportunities for us to change our ways, but even His patience eventually comes to an end.

2) The core principle of the Noahide Laws is the mission to develop the natural world and build human civilization, as indicated by the Hebrew wording of Isaiah 45:18. All the Noahide Laws and their numerous details revolve around this principle and uphold it. Thus anything that interferes with human development or tries to protect nature in its natural, imperfect state (which G-d created unfinished, for us to complete through our work) violates the Noahide Code in its entirety and is forbidden. Under this principle, it is forbidden for gentiles to have a day of religious rest (such as the Sabbath or Sunday, as opposed to physical rest for "recharging," which is permitted); it is equally prohibited to reserve land that is protected from any development and left purely in its wild, natural state.

3) One of the seven Noahide Laws is the prohibition on eating flesh or limb from a still-living animal. Among the provisions of this law is that one must not cause unnecessary suffering to any animal (as opposed to that which might be necessary, and is therefore permitted).

4) Jewish Law also prohibits Jews from causing unneeded suffering to animals. This means bullfighting, cockfighting, and recreational hunting are forbidden (although recreational fishing is allowed, since that is not considered "causing suffering"). As the Lubavitcher Rebbe has explained, provisions of Jewish Law that are compatible with Noahide Law are generally also binding on gentiles, and thus these restrictions apply to all people. (Where actually needed as a source for food, hunting is permitted. But today, where meat is widely available through farms and ranches via grocery stores, hunting becomes an unneeded source of suffering for animals.)

Analysis:
Locking up land from human development violates the foundations of G-d's Law. This applies all the more when the reason for preserving nature is recreational, rather than some human need. And it is even less justifiable when that recreation involves unneeded suffering for animals. Worse yet, the selfish, short-sighted desire for the "fun and games" of recreational hunting, carried out at the terrible expense of freezing land in an unused state, now serves the purposes of Communist revolution and the destruction of an economy already badly weakened by monstrous socialism and environmental regulations.

So not only must conservationism come to an end, but since hunting no longer serves any purpose other that recreational (even if the hunter eats the entire animal, which changes nothing), that, too, must be abolished. Any meat, presumably including venison (deer) can now be domesticated and handled on farms and ranches, rather than being hunted in the wild (the same, incidentally, is increasingly true of fishing).

America faces a decision before G-d. If Americans abandon vain traditions in favor of G-d's eternal Law, the nation will survive and prosper even through the coming Communist revolution. But if Americans cling to what is comfortable, convenient, and supposedly "fun," the nation will face G-d's judgment — in part through Communist agents who will use conservatives as tools to destroy their own country. G-d Himself is temporarily empowering the enemy to succeed until His work is done, and then He will withdraw His beneficence and the Communists themselves will be utterly wiped out.

If the Iraqi courts don't convict Saddam Hussein, or if they give him a light sentence, what should America do?

(1) Execute him ourselves.
(2) Re-arrest him and try him in the United States.
(3) Respect the rule of Iraqi law and support the ruling.

More on the "Temple Movement"

Chaim Richman and Yaakov Ariel (sometimes listed as "Yisrael Ariel") of the Temple Institute and Yehuda Edri of the Movement to Establish the Temple, all members of the phony new "Sanhedrin," have been working for many years to create a new religion in the guise of "Judaism." Their efforts have centered around distorting the religious laws regarding the Jerusalem Temple. But now they're pushing with new brazenness.

Yaakov Ariel recently proclaimed that Jews are now obligated to bring the Passover lamb sacrifice each year, insisting that conditions permit, and thus require, the offerings.

Virtually every lie contains grains of truth for the sake of plausibility. It is true that the Temple will be rebuilt forever, and that the animal sacrifices will be permanently restored (see the book of Ezekiel, beginning in chapter 40). It is also true that the Temple doesn't have to be fully rebuilt for the sacrifices to restart; only the altar need be constructed. And it is further true that the sacrifices can be brought even when the entire Jewish people are ritually impure, as is the case today.

But there stops the truth, and the lies begin. For nearly 2,000 years, the Jewish people have not been in genuine control of the Temple Mount, and under such circumstances, the Torah forbids bringing any sacrifices; Jews who abstain from bringing offerings are obeying G-d's Law, while those who would offer sacrifices would be sinning. The necessary precondition is authentic Jewish control over the site — meaning the ability to operate it according to Jewish Law.

Immediately following the 1967 war in which Israel won military control over Jerusalem and the Temple Mount, the Lubavitcher Rebbe warned that it might have just become required to offer the lamb sacrifice for Passover, 1968; consequently, he advised Jews to spend that Passover outside Jerusalem, so as not to be obligated for the sacrifice (to play it safe in the face of doubts as to whether or not the sacrifices were now possible). But soon thereafter, upon learning that the Israeli government was already negotiating to give up control of Jerusalem, the Rebbe reversed his warning and clearly stated that Jews did not yet have authentic control of the Temple Mount, and thus couldn't bring sacrifices. That position was only strengthened over the years, as the Rebbe revealed publicly that the Israeli government had already secretly bargained away Jerusalem (during the 1970s), and ever since has merely been waiting for an opportune moment to announce the surrender without arousing too much backlash. Thus, explained the Rebbe, there isn't yet true Jewish control over the Temple Mount.

Moreover, as pointed out last time, the Temple can't even be rebuilt until after the Messianic King leads the Jewish people into a global war to exterminate Amalek and its minions, including all of world Communism.

But Yaakov Ariel and his associates ignore this and pretend that the sacrifices have now become obligatory, thus trying to induce Jews to sin by bringing offerings or by sinfully entering the Temple Mount.

Ariel's Temple Institute works closely with, and is promoted by, the subversive Root & Branch Association (R & B), which exists primarily to help create a "New World Order" pseudo-religion that fuses Judaism, Christianity, Islam, and Buddhism into one Communist-controlled entity. That is also the implied goal of Yona Metzger (Israel's Chief Ashkenazic Rabbi, profiled a few issues ago for his subversive, pro-Communist activities). The intent is not only to neutralize the war against Communism, but to destroy Judaism from within and pave the way for a phony leadership to seize control over the Jewish people.

That, of course, is the essential purpose of the Moscow-controlled "Sanhedrin," which includes these three "Temple Movement" leaders as members.

Terrorism Update:

The Soviet/ Red Chinese war against Israel, using the PLO as their tightly controlled proxy, continues with U.S. funding. Here's a review of terror attacks over the last week:

Wednesday: 5 firebombs thrown at Israeli cars on various roads.
Thursday: 2 Kassam rockets fired by the PLO's Palestinian Authority (PA) from Gaza; shots fired at Israeli soldiers; firebombs thrown at other Israeli soldiers; rocks thrown at cars passing by, and a rock barricade erected on the road, damaging 1 car and 1 bus; Israeli Air Force missiles destroyed a car converted into a mobile Kassam-rocket launchpad, injuring 2 members of the PLO-allied Islamic Jihad.
Saturday (Shabbos): 1 truck hijacked (leaving the driver injured); shots fired at Israeli soldiers; a bomb thrown at a bus on the road.
Sunday: 2 Kassam missiles fired by the PA from Gaza; rocks thrown at a bus driving in Jerusalem, injuring 2; rocks thrown at other cars in the West Bank, damaging 2 buses; 1 caught concealing a knife; 3 other terrorists caught carrying knives and axes; shots fired into a West Bank neighborhood, damaging 1 house; 3 bombs found planted against the Israeli army; terrorists found riding in a taxi & carrying 40 knives and 20 binoculars; 1 bomb thrown at Israeli soldiers.
Monday: 1 Kassam rocket fired by the PA (& presumably the Islamic Jihad) from Gaza; shots fired at Israeli soldiers by terrorists being arrested (primarily a member of the PLO-allied Islamic Jihad); an agent of Islamic Jihad was caught carrying a bomb, & confessed to planning an attack within days; 1 bomb thrown at an Israeli army vehicle; rocks & firebombs thrown at Israeli cars driving by, damaging several vehicles; shots fired at Israeli soldiers on routine patrol.
Today (Tuesday): 4 Kassam rockets fired by the PA (& apparently the Islamic Jihad) from Gaza (making a total of 303 missiles fired since January 1st, 56 during the month of April); rocks thrown at Israeli cars on the road (smashing at least 1 windshield).

This week's casualty count (not counting dead & injured terrorists):

Successful: 3 injured; 1 house, several cars, & 3 buses damaged
Prevented: 4 bombings; many potential missile attacks from a mobile rocket launcher; 44 knifings
Attempted but failed to hit targets: 5 missiles; 3 bombings; at least 7 firebombings; 4 shooting attacks

While making noises about not funding Hamas (although U.S. money does go to Hamas through the United Nations), the Bush Administration is finding every possible channel through which to maintain aid to the PLO itself — which, in turn, finances and sponsors Hamas.

Some Chabad Shluchim Are Helping the JAHG-USA Campaign

Here we have three leaders in the Lubavitch movement whose endorsements should catch people's attention, and who may have helped tremendously in receiving over 100 new endorsements since then.

Dr. Lang is the Vice Chair of the Community Council for the Lubavitch area of Brooklyn; the Council oversees various political affairs for the community, including its interactions with the city of New York and other political institutions.

Rabbi Labkowski is the Dean (Rosh Yeshiva) of the primary Lubavitch yeshiva (located at 770 Eastern Parkway, headquarters for the Rebbe and the worldwide Lubavitch movement); his yeshiva was originally founded in Russia by the fifth Rebbe of Chabad-Lubavitch, the Rashab, and its students receive rabbinical ordination and go on to open or lead Chabad House synagogues throughout the world. Rabbi Labkowski, in other words, is a respected leading rabbi with authority in matters of Jewish Law, and with the ability to confer rabbinical ordination on others (It's entirely possible that Rabbi Zalmanov, the "refusenik" profiled above, may have received his ordination from Rabbi Labkowski; in any case, he ought to listen to Rabbi Labkowski's authoritative endorsement of the JAHG-USA campaign).

"Interesting about Beethoven; I knew he changed his mind about the Eroica dedication but the reason seems to be misreported.… Newsletter is, as always, informative." — JEC.

"Although I sympathize with your intentions, some of your facts about Beethoven were wrong. It is true that Beethoven was initially sympathetic to Napoleon, but on the day that Napoleon crowned himself king, Beethoven actually renounced his allegiance with Napoleon Bonaparte and dedicated his 3rd Symphony to the struggle against Napoleon. Beethoven was so hated by Napoleon that Beethoven was actually put under house arrest for a considerable time period by Napoleon.…" — DG.

Our response: Our discussion last week already answers this objection, but it's worth reiterating certain points.

Beethoven's initial admiration for Napoleon was based on Napoleon's service in the cause of spreading the French Revolution internationally. Beethoven did later turn against his former idol, but not because he was repenting of supporting anarchist, atheist revolution; he repudiated Napoleon specifically because Napoleon declared himself a member of the aristocracy, which Beethoven and all other revolutionaries hated and wished to overthrow. So because Napoleon seemingly stepped sideways a wee bit in a conservative direction, Beethoven (and millions of other fanatic anarchists) simultaneously disowned Napoleon. Beethoven rejected Napoleon because he felt Napoleon had lost some of his revolutionary edge, not because Beethoven himself was becoming less anarchist.

Beethoven's lifelong obsession with destroying ordered society was reflected through most or all of his subsequent works, including all six of his remaining symphonies. Culminating in his most radical, revolutionary work, the 9th symphony, his bitter advocacy of atheistic, revolutionary chaos only grew with time — as did his personal rantings against society and religion. In the wake of Napoleon's fall, the Metternich government of Austria, which worked to repair at least some of the subversive damage, dispatched undercover police to monitor Beethoven's increasingly hateful rhetoric and anarchist sympathies.

Regarding the alleged "house arrest" of Beethoven, we can only comment that we haven't found any mention of this in the biographical profiles of the composer — though, admittedly, we haven't done thorough research on this point.But clearly it wasn't any major event (if it happened at all), nor do we know what "a considerable time period" means.

For contrast, consider one man that Napoleon really did hate — the Alter Rebbe, founder of the Chabad Hasidic movement. Had Napoleon caught up with the Alter Rebbe in Russia, he most certainly would have murdered him, not just put him under "house arrest." That is at least part of the reason the Alter Rebbe and his household fled before the advancing French armies, even torching his own house to prevent anything from falling into Napoleon's hands.

Clearly, Beethoven never had to fear for his life from Napoleon. In fact, history records that Napoleon's soldiers enthusiastically attended a concert directed by Beethoven and enjoyed the performance. The historical records also state that Beethoven prospered quite well under the sponsorship of certain influential people in Vienna, even during the time of the French occupation. Indeed, he is recorded as having worried only about the thunder of artillery cannons (which, needless to say, weren't aimed at him!), and apparently didn't seem too concerned about being mistreated. So it is certainly inaccurate to say that Napoleon hated Beethoven; at most, he resented being rejected by his former admirer, but nevertheless both Napoleon and Beethoven continued their parallel support for spreading revolution. Beethoven differed with Napoleon only over Napoleon's having shown (a bit of) pragmatic moderation rather than burning down society immediately.
