JAHG-USA Newsletter: Week of 26 Adar, 5766 / March 26, 2006

"Should our nation spend money supporting artistic work?" Interestingly, nearly 90% of responses voted against all public funding for artistic work; the balance of responses fell in the "other" category. Some of the respondents provided comments (a couple of them long ones), and the following are excerpts of the most relevant ones:

Factual Background:
Although entertainment may contain elements of art, art is not entertainment as such. Whatever its medium — music, architecture, painting, sculpture, literature, theater — art shapes the intuitive aspect of a person's mind, affecting or even defining his attitude and outlook on life.

In virtually all ages and societies, religious and political leaders have instinctively recognized the intrinsic power of art to shape human civilization, never failing to exploit and control it, and even to create it, for their purposes. Emperors from China to Babylon to Rome sponsored artists to popularize and inculcate the corrupt doctrines, myths, and values of whichever pagan, idolatrous cults ruled their societies. In Egypt, the pagan priesthood and its puppet Pharaohs built elaborate temples and sculptures to propagandize for their "gods"; the rise of Pharaoh Ikhnaton, profoundly influenced by the early Jews, briefly introduced Egypt to monotheism, erased the names and legends of pagan deities, and liberated the culture and art with a new sense of vitality and higher truth; the sudden death of Ikhnaton allowed the shunned priests to restore their rule through Tutankhamen ("King Tut"), who as quickly buried the monotheistic rebirth and plunged Egypt — and its art and culture — back into the abyss of idol-worshipping hedonism. Greek Hellenists, Islam, and the Christian Church have likewise supported and used the artists in their realms to promote and consolidate their competing influences.

When religion does not control art, it automatically defaults to the grossest sensuality: intellectual and sensual indulgence for its own sake, pleasure without higher purpose. The plays, paintings, and sculptures of classical Greece betray its democratic licentiousness, the homosexuality and other sensuality that ultimately destroyed Hellenist society. Even the Catholic Church was not always careful to protect its ideology; in sponsoring Michelangelo, for example, the Church opened the door for him to resurrect the overtly pagan values and symbolism of pre-Christian society, placing its revived imprint on sculpture, the frescoes of the Sistine Chapel, and other "Christian" art — along with a not-so-subtle homosexual eroticism borrowed directly from ancient Greece. Right to the present day, artists are too frequently identified with Bohemian, immoral lifestyles, and with good reason. Unregulated by transcendent purpose, art cannot rise above the lowest of corporeal indulgence.

But it can be even worse. In its rise to power in recent centuries, the hidden forces of Amalek have even more keenly perceived the inherent power of art, seizing control of it as a weapon for anarchy, social demolition, and Satanic revolution in general.

In music, Mozart dabbled in the Gnostic propaganda of Freemasonry with his Magic Flute; Beethoven championed anarchist revolution, especially in his 9th symphony; and Wagner, a radical Socialist, brought the anarchy directly into the music itself, writing chaotic pieces later to be championed by Hitler's National Socialists and their leftist kin. One needn't even comment on pop-culture movements such as jazz, rock-n-roll (both being colloquial terms that mean "sex"), rap, and their relatives.

Painting likewise served Amalek through both its content and method: The Impressionists tried to make the order of G-d's creation dissolve into "fuzziness," the surrealists tried to drive it into nightmarish ugliness, Picasso (who publicly boasted that both he and his painting were Communist) twisted his pictures into grotesque, "cubist" distortions which he used falsely to blame Communist atrocities on anti-Communists, Andy Warhol (an open admirer of Communist Chinese mass-murderer Mao Tse-Tung) never found an evil cause he couldn't promote, and other modernist "artists" dispense entirely with any sense of order in favor of random images. Inside the Communist Bloc, meanwhile, paintings promote the revolution in a different way — with images of zombie-like workers and peasants marching with defiant, blasphemous, atheistic arrogance to their "self-made" destinies, as if G-d either did not exist or were impotent (G-d forbid). Such images have polluted the public thoroughfares as much in Nazi Germany or Leninist-Stalinist Russia as today under Putin or in Kim Il-Jong's North Korea.

Ditto for the worlds of literature and theater, where Communist propaganda has shaped both the content and the technique of writers from James Joyce to Jean-Paul Sartre and Ernest Hemingway (both of the latter being particularly brazen Communists).

Although Amaleki use of art for revolutionary goals dates back for centuries, the Marxist-Leninist theory on cultural war as an entire sphere of combat was most explicitly formulated by Antonio Gramsci, leading theoretician of the Italian Communist Party in the 1920s. Gramsci's strategic formulations are used and explicitly cited to this day by Communists everywhere as guidelines for seizing control of a non-Communist culture and wreaking havoc, thus paving the way for physical revolution. The results of that strategy are painfully apparent today in all dimensions of modern society and entertainment, whether supported by government or by market demand. That goes a long way in explaining the almost universal sense of confusion, anxiety, depression, despair, and malaise found today, as well as the epidemics of drug abuse, immorality, divorce, suicide, crime, and dishonesty in general.

Relevant Torah Principles:
1) Recognizing the intrinsic power of art to shape human intuition and subconscious attitudes, the Torah warns against exposing oneself to pernicious artistic influences. Idolatrous sculptures are to be avoided entirely (one not even being permitted to gaze at them), and even potentially idolatrous sculptures must be "nullified" through defacements; the Talmud enjoins us not to listen to "Greek music," partly interpreted by sages such as Maimonides as referring to popular or folk music (such as songs about romance or everyday situations); and the rabbinical sages of ages past warned against attending theaters or mass gatherings for entertainment, a common pastime of idolatrous cults throughout the world.

2) On the other hand, the Torah does recognize a positive potential in art, and distinguishes it from its negative forms. Legitimate poetry, music, and architecture have always been recognized in Jewish culture since Biblical times, and painting and sculpture are implied as having legitimate forms. The concept is that art must neither serve itself (i.e., having no agenda) nor the cause of a false religion, but rather must seek in both its form and content to uplift the human soul and open the mind to the reality of higher, transcendent Truth beyond current human understanding — that is, G-d's infinitely higher wisdom.

3) The Torah also recognizes the possibility of capturing some art out of the hands of corruption and evil, transforming it to G-d's purposes; certain Hasidic hymns, for example, were taken from corrupt gentile sources (notably including Napoleon's March, taken from the depths of Amaleki revolution to the heights of Hasidic devotion). However, many or most such works cannot be so transformed, and must be erased lest they continue to poison the world. It is very important that one be able to distinguish accurately and truthfully art with positive potential from inherently ruinous art, or else this is too dangerous a venture to attempt.

4) Under the Noahide Laws, the Torah grants a wide leeway of powers to government to be used, as necessary, in promoting civilization and assistance to the Jewish mission. If private sources will not support positive art, or worse, if they sponsor destructive art, the government can and must step in both to suppress the evil art and to sponsor genuine, uplifting art.

5) The Noahide Laws also forbid any government from violating its own laws, such as a constitution. Any intervention into art must be in accordance with the laws of the land.

Analysis:
Communist and pro-Communist forces for revolution have by now hijacked both government and private institutions. In the world of art, this means that whether the funding comes from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA), from private foundations, or from consumer demand, it has almost entirely been reduced to toxic waste with an horrifyingly corrosive influence on our society.

This means legal intervention is needed. Degrading or subversive art (which today is almost everything) must not only be defunded from all sources, it must be completely censored — and the subversive artists executed before they can bring down the system into Communist anarchy and the Red Terror.

If, in the aftermath of the annihilation of Communism and its revolution, private sponsors will support good, G-d-fearing art, then all will be fine. If not, it may be incumbent on the new government to fund such artistic endeavors to the extent needed to ensure art does not fall back into a purposeless existence, art "for its own sake."

But since the U.S. Constitution does not allow for such funding, it would in that case be necessary to amend the Constitution to allow whatever degree of funding and control of art that may be needed.

In recent days, tens or hundreds of thousands of students have ditched high school in Los Angeles to attend "pro-immigration" demonstrations. What should be our response?

(1) We should welcome students taking an active role in expressing their views.
(2) We need to get those students out of public schools into religious ones.
(3) We need special incentives and stronger enforcement of truancy laws to bring them back into the classroom.

Subversion Alert

This week:
Rabbi Shlomo Amar, Chief Sephardic Rabbi, Jerusalem, Israel;
and a follow-up on
Rabbi Yona Metzger, Chief Ashkenazic Rabbi, Jerusalem, Israel

In last week's exposure of Yona Metzger and his subversion of Jewish religion through aggressive interfaith activities, we neglected to mention that on February 19th of this year, he also conducted an official, public meeting in Jerusalem with the Dalai Lama, leader of Tibetan Buddhism. Again, it need only be pointed out that Torah Law explicitly forbids Jews, especially rabbis, from participating in interfaith meetings in which leaders of other religions are treated as having equivalent authority to rabbis. There was absolutely no legitimate excuse for treating the Dalai Lama as if he were an authority in religious matters. Worse, the Dalai Lama had publicly stated, just four days earlier (in Tel Aviv, Israel), that he would also be delighted to meet officially with the PLO-sponsored terrorist group Hamas — and that Israel should negotiate with the terrorists. And yet Metzger chose to honor such a pro-Communist leader of a pagan, idolatrous religion!

While Metzger abuses his position to advance the Communist interfaith agenda amongst European Jews, Rabbi Shlomo Amar does the same amongst Middle Eastern Jews, using his parallel status as Israel's Chief Sephardic Rabbi. Here's a quick, if partial, rundown:

Amar attended the February meeting with the Dalai Lama, actively participating in Metzger's honoring of the Buddhist leader.
Amar also visited the Vatican last September along with Metzger, participating in the ecumenical meeting with Pope Benedict XVI.
Amar likewise joined Metzger at the Vatican in January of 2004 for an official, interfaith meeting with Pope John Paul II. As mentioned last week, that meeting was arranged behind the scenes by Soviet Communist dictator Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan, the Jew-hating, PLO-supporting apparatchik whom Metzger had the audacity to "bless" publicly — at an interfaith conference of various religious in Kazakhstan, hosted by the Communist government, no less! (The papal meeting with John Paul II was timed to coincide with other public events promoting "solidarity" between Jews, Christians, and Muslims; such "solidarity" could only destroy the Torah and desecrate G-d's holy Name.)
Both Amar and Metzger refused to oppose Israel's "disengagement" policy of surrendering to PLO terrorism and giving the PLO unchallenged control over parts of Israel, and they both joined Abraham Foxman, Director of the Anti-Defamation League, in condemning Jewish opposition to Ariel Sharon's treason. In effect, Amar, Metzger, and Foxman publicly committed themselves to Israel's destruction and the victory of the PLO, without saying so explicitly. If those three were to have their way, there would certainly be a second Holocaust against millions of Jews.

While Shlomo Amar is less aggressive and brazen than Metzger in undermining Judaism through interfaith subversion — possibly because, as a Sephardic (Middle Eastern Jewish) leader, he answers to a more traditional, conservative constituency — he nevertheless actively helps in the treason. Whether he is a conscious traitor working for the enemy or a prostitute who has sold his soul for personal advancement, the outcome is the same: He is a collaborator with the enemies of G-d and the Jewish people, and his voice counts for absolutely nothing. Until he can be run out of his office in shame, he must be completely ignored by everyone.

This week's example:
Rabbi Michoel Behrman, Nat'l. Committee for the Furtherance of Jewish Education, Brooklyn, NY

Rabbi Behrman was presented our PLO-defunding Proclamation last July 14th. He works under Sholom Ber Hecht (profiled a couple of weeks ago as an adamant "refusenik" who won't have anything to do with our campaign). So it probably shouldn't have been too surprising that Behrman reacted with obvious irritation. But having no basis to oppose the Proclamation, he could only make erratic statements trying to deflect attention from the issue. He rudely interrupted the JAHG-USA volunteer with the useless observation that he personally doesn't fund the PLO (our campaign is to stop the U.S. government's PLO funding), then babbled some nonsense about Hamas running the PLO (this was last July, long before the recent PA elections — and anyway, it's the reverse; the PLO runs Hamas), and then finally walking away in angry frustration.

That was an obvious "no," and we listed Behrman accordingly on our web site. But in the months since then, we have learned that Behrman found his name listed as refusing to sign, and that apparently has made him furious. Yet he still refuses to sign. It seems he wants it both ways at once: To avoid signing without being publicized as such. But it doesn't work that way, and his name will only lose its stigma of violating the Torah when he finally decides to repent and support our anti-terrorism campaign.

Terrorism Update:

NOTE: The Arutz-Sheva news organization continues to describe the Marxist-Leninist, anti-religious terrorists of the PLO and its allies as "Arabs" (which is technically accurate only in a racial sense), "Palestinians" (who are merely stateless Arabs under United Nations and PLO control, and in any case, the terrorists despise and murder "palestinians"), or even "Moslems" — the latter being completely false, as the Communist-run and -backed organizations masquerading as "fundamentalist" are in reality anti-Muslim, Marxist (often Trotskyite) movements hiding behind a thin veneer of pseudo-religious national socialism. The PLO, Hezbollah (founded and run by the PLO), Islamic Jihad (coordinated under PLO supervision), Hamas (funded and coordinated by the PLO), and similar groups are in reality nothing but tentacles of Soviet Russia, for whose invading Red Army they are merely preparing the way.

Now Israeli authorities are trying to divert attention even further from the Soviet-PLO apparatus by resurrecting the myth of the nonexistent "al-Qaeda" organization. Two terrorists in the West Bank were convicted last week of "membership in al-Qaeda," including planning attacks and recruiting others. But other news reports have essentially admitted that the silly "al-Qaeda" label is in reality a reference to the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine — General Command (PFLP-GC) or other groups. The PFLP-GC is one of the earliest member groups of the PLO umbrella organization; its leader, Ahmed Jibril, was more than anyone else the original founder of the PLO itself, over which Yassir Arafat was later installed as official leader. Jibril was trained in the Soviet Union and recruited as an officer in its KGB secret police, and he is certainly an overt Marxist-Leninist who does not hide his Communist affiliations or anti-Muslim attitudes.

So the phony "al-Qaeda" label actually represents the PLO itself — and especially its more overtly Communist wing, rather than any alleged "Muslim fundamentalists"! And Arutz-Sheva (which years ago is likely to have come under the control of the Soviet-infiltrated, Israeli secret service) is joining the chorus of traitors from within who seek to divert attention from the Soviet-PLO apparatus and the impending invasion of Israel by Soviet Russian (and Red Chinese?) military divisions.

In any case, the following is a partial rundown of the escalating, U.S.-funded (but Soviet-directed) PLO terror war since last week's newsletter:

Tuesday, March 7th (3 weeks ago): This last Sunday, Israeli authorities revealed they had previously caught a member of Islamic Jihad sneaking into Israel, carrying a bomb for a planned suicide attack.
Wednesday: 1 firebomb thrown at an Israeli car driving in the West Bank; a member of the PLO's Fatah Tanzim militia, & 2 terrorists assisting him, were arrested while preparing a bombing attack against some unspecified Jewish area; shots fired at Israeli soldiers and civilians at a checkpoint; 1 Kassam missile fired from Palestinian Authority (PA)-controlled Gaza.
Thursday: Terrorists fired Soviet Russian assault rifles at Israeli soldiers, injuring 2; 2 Kassam missiles fired from PA-controlled Gaza; 3 members of the Islamic Jihad were intercepted and shot dead while planting a 66-pound bomb at the Gaza Strip border; shots fired at Israeli border police; 1 anti-tank missile fired at Israeli soldiers; 6 firebombs thrown at Israeli cars while driving in 2 locations; firebombs & stones thrown at an Israeli army vehicle; stones thrown at an Israeli car.
Friday: Shots fired at Israeli soldiers; 1 bomb thrown at Israeli soldiers; 2 Kassam rockets fired from PA-controlled Gaza; a terrorist caught carrying a bomb, & another carrying a knife.
Saturday (Shabbos): 2 Kassam rockets fired from PA-controlled Gaza, 1 hitting & damaging an industrial building; firebombs & rocks thrown at Israeli soldiers in different locations; stones thrown at an ambulance outside Jerusalem, damaging it; various cars attacked by stone-throwers; shots fired into a Jewish residential community in the West Bank.
Sunday: 1 pipe bomb thrown at Israel soldiers guarding Rachel's Tomb in Bethlehem; a member of the PLO's al-Aqsa Brigades fired shots at Israeli soldiers; a terrorist was caught and shot dead while planting a bomb at the Gaza Strip border; 3 Kassam missiles fired from PA-controlled Gaza, 2 exploding near populated areas & 1 in the ocean; rocks thrown at a school bus in the West Bank, badly damaging it; a terrorist caught entering Tel Aviv's Central Bus Station with a knife, planning to attack Jews; another terrorist caught carrying a knife in the West Bank; a terrorist caught carrying a hand grenade & a knife; 2 other terrorists caught with hidden knives, planning an attack in Hebron.
Monday: 5 firebombs thrown at 3 Israeli cars driving in different areas of the West Bank; shots fired & a bomb thrown at Israeli soldiers in the West Bank while they were arresting a terrorist of the PLO's Fatah Tanzim militia; 1 Kassam rocket fired from PA-controlled Gaza; 2 terrorists caught carrying guns; a PLO-incited mob attacked an Israeli resident in the West Bank; terrorists, intercepted while preparing to stage an attack, fired guns at the Israeli soldiers (2 terrorists were killed — 1 a member of the PLO's al-Aqsa Brigades, the other of the PLO-coordinated Islamic Jihad).
Today (Tuesday): 5 Kassam rockets fired from PA-controlled Gaza (by the PLO-coordinated Islamic Jihad, probably together with the PLO's al-Aqsa Brigades, as usual), killing 2 Arabs (a father and his teenage son) by an explosive direct hit near a kibbutz, & leaving 2 others in shock; the Islamic Jihad fired a longer-range, deadlier, Soviet Russian-designed Katyusha rocket (made in Soviet-controlled Iran, smuggled through Communist Egypt) from PA-controlled Gaza; 2 terrorists caught carrying guns & ammunition; rocks thrown at a car driving through the West Bank, injuring the female driver; shots fired at Israeli soldiers near the Gaza Strip.

This week's casualty count (not counting dead & injured terrorists):

Successful: 2 murdered; 3 injured; 2 placed in shock; 1 building, 1 schoolbus, & 1 ambulance damaged
Prevented: 5 bombings; 5 knifings; 2 shootings; 1 unspecified attack
Attempted but failed to hit targets: 1 Katyusha rocket; 14 Kassam rockets; 1 anti-tank missile; 3 bombings; 8+ firebombings; 7 shootings; several stone-throwing attacks

Soviet Russia is accelerating its smuggling of weapons, and even more advanced ones, to the PLO in Israel, as evidenced by the Katyusha rocket fired from Gaza today. This arming of the PLO isn't just to accelerate terrorism, but also to begin stockpiling weapons for future deployment of Soviet armed forces in their planned invasion of Israel. That is the reason Russia is also proposing to sell armored vehicles to the PA.

But if the PLO is defunded first, Soviet Russia won't have its needed opening to bring in the Red Army, and the invasion will never happen. So it's time to get involved!

Some Chabad Shluchim Are Helping the JAHG-USA Campaign

Rabbi Kievman was shown the Proclamation on July 12th and endorsed it on the spot. He is one of the managers of the Lubavitcher Rebbe's synagogue, the world headquarters of the Lubavitch Hasidic movement, and is one of several managers of that same synagogue who support the JAHG-USA drive.

Rabbi Karp saw the Proclamation July 14th, two days later, and also signed. The rabbi is a teacher at one of the two major boys' yeshivos of Lubavitch in New York, and is one of dozens of Oholei Torah teachers who have endorsed our campaign.

Maybe Michoel Behrman will learn from their examples and see that he, too, can participate in saving lives.
