"Issues of World War III" Survey

"What should the U.S. do about the Afghan drug industry?" Reader opinions were more divided this time, though no one advocated doing nothing about the problem. Favoring total eradication of poppy crops in Afghanistan were 60% of respondents; the balance voted for limited measures against the opium-producing plants. Possibly because of general lack of knowledge on this issue, we received only a single comment:

Factual Background:
Despite having fought a recent war there, Americans have little idea what is happening in Afghanistan. Confusion reigns as to which side U.S. forces fought against, or even which sides exist, or who runs the country now. That's no accident; the forces in Afghanistan and their sponsors have gone to great lengths in recent years to disguise their true identities and affiliations.

According to the official propaganda, Afghanistan ceased to be a Communist-occupied country after Soviet forces supposedly withdrew in 1989. By 1992, the Communist government was allegedly overthrown by fanatic "Muslim" mujahedin, who were in turn thrown out of power in 1996 by fellow Muslims, the Taliban movement, apparently only because the Islam of the mujahedin wasn't stringent enough. But then a strange thing happened: The new Taliban government began dramatically increasing the farming of poppy plants to produce opium and heroin for other nations, an activity overtly against the very fundamental tenets of a religion that doesn't even permit alcohol, much less narcotic drugs. To make matters more bizarre, the countries targeted by the Taliban for heroin exports were not only European, but also their thoroughly Muslim neighbors such as Pakistan, where Afghan heroin is ruining uncountable lives.

After the 9/11 attacks, (carefully limited) U.S. forces went into Afghanistan on the hypothesis that that backward country was somehow the source of the sophisticated terrorist strikes. By the end of 2001, the Taliban regime was officially out of power, replaced by an undefined composite government headed by one Hamid Karzai, pledged to clearing his country of the Taliban's corrosive influence. Yet now the poppy and its opium and heroin products are growing — more drastically than under the Taliban! And that is with thousands of American troops right now in the country. By some estimates, the opium/heroin industry now comprises 60% of the entire Afghan economy.

The real story is much simpler, if more horrifying. The so-called "mujahedin" were nothing more than Communist-led forces pretending to overthrow their comrades in 1992; their top leaders included Soviet General Dostum, Soviet-KGB officer Hekmatyar, and other Marxist elements using vague statements of general Muslim culture to confuse outsiders, and who continued to receive Soviet Russian aid quietly. The Taliban, in turn, were composed of Communist officers from the Soviet-era regime, shared many members with their Soviet-armed "mujahedin opponents" (later termed the "Northern Alliance"), were supported by Soviet General Dostum of the "Northern Alliance," and received open military aid from Red China and (as we now know) secret Russian weapons from the KGB. When the U.S. military presence forced the Communists to remove the Taliban, many Taliban members re-switched sides right back to the openly Soviet-backed Northern Alliance without the slightest speed bump. And Hamid Karzai, the new "president" of Afghanistan, was himself a Taliban supporter who has since openly embraced "former" Taliban leaders, the Soviet-backed Northern Alliance forces, members of the Communist party of Afghanistan, and other Communist-aligned elements.

That is to say, Afghanistan remains a fully Communist-occupied country still receiving aid — and, of course, orders — from the rest of the Communist Bloc. With U.S. troops confined to tiny areas in remote parts of the country, fighting phantom guerrillas in the mountains under crippling "rules of engagement" that prevent the slightest possibility of victory, Karzai and his fellow Communists are free to run the country as a Soviet-style dictatorship. Holding the population hostage in an atmosphere of socialism and terror, the Karzai regime is able to force Afghans to grow poppy fields and produce the deadly drugs. The fact that the poppy crop is run under the authority of various officials in the Karzai regime is already well known and publicized in our newspapers, although leftist reporters slant the news to suggest Karzai somehow has nothing to do with this.

It's not the least bit hard to find those brightly-colored poppy fields in the otherwise barren Afghan plains; one photograph after another, taken by American reporters standing in the fields while workers produce the opium before the foreign cameras, graces the front pages of our newspapers. So eradicating the crops would be the easy part. But the Bush Administration blandly accepts Karzai's claim that destroying poppy fields might alienate the enslaved farmers, who would then want to join the phantom "Taliban" that couldn't pay them anything at all. As a result, U.S. soldiers are forbidden by President Bush from doing anything but watch the poppies grow and be harvested into opium, while being allowed only to go out on patrols outside American-controlled territory waiting to be attacked.

Last year, Condoleeza Rice even had the nerve to praise Karzai and his regime for working hard to stop the opium trade — even as she was receiving the news that Afghan opium production was breaking new records! But then, the Bush Administration never had the least intention of winning the Afghan War in the first place.

Relevant Torah Principles:
1) As Hasidic philosophy explains, the purpose of Torah and its mitzvos (commandments) is, in one sense, to elevate the animalistic side of a person to serve his more human side, which in turn must be elevated to serve the Divine. Thus any behavior that reverses this process, reducing the human aspect to animalism, is implicitly forbidden. All illicit drugs, whether marijuana, cocaine, heroin, or others, are therefore automatically prohibited. In the Noahide Laws, the source of the prohibition would be the root purpose of the Seven Commandments — namely, to make the physical world a settled, developed place.

2) Consequently, a gentile government is compelled, by the commandment of upholding justice, to take measures to stop a drug-pushing assault on society. This necessarily includes laws and measures beyong the minimum of the Noahide Laws, formulated in response to the needs of the situation.

3) Where drug-pushing is a military offensive by a determined enemy, the gentile government may not play politics and fight the drugs while allowing the drug-pushing apparatus to remain intact. If drugs are being pushed as part of a military offensive against a nation, it constitutes an act of war, and the government is required to declare war against the enemy — unrestricted war, with the intent of victory.

Analysis:
For decades, the Communist Bloc and its global network of revolutionaries and terrorists have produced, transported, promoted, and sold drugs throughout non-Communist nations as an explicit weapon of social demolition. The Communist Party of Colombia and its armed wings produce cocaine with Soviet and Cuban support; Red China makes and distributes heroin; Eastern Europe smuggles Chinese and Afghan drugs into Europe; etc., etc. Drug use has become popular not because people intrinsically want it, but because Communist-controlled gangs and criminal networks promote every possible type of drug amongst youth, addicting weak and vulnerable members of society to soul-destroying chemicals through manipulated peer pressure.

In short, the drug phenomenon is an ongoing act of war by the entire Communist Bloc, working together in unison. There is no choice but for governments to go to war against the Communists who produce the drugs. Even eradication of coca or poppy plants cannot ultimately work as long as the Communists are not annihilated, for they simply find new ways to replant and farm the crops, increasing drug production almost every year. In Afghanistan, the enemy is the Karzai government and all other armed forces in the country, who are quietly cooperating to produce the heroin. Only when American forces are unleashed to destroy — not to capture or prosecute, but to exterminate altogether — all Communists in Afghanistan can that society finally recover and the heroin trade be truly erased from the country.

Any political leader who restricts U.S. forces from this necessary mission is committing treason (defined as rendering "aid and comfort" to an enemy), which is a fundamental violation of G-d's Law (the Noahide commandment of justice) and a prosecutable offense under the U.S. Constitution, with a potential penalty of death upon conviction. The entire Bush Administration (and all members of the previous Clinton Administration) are fully guilty on this count with respect to Afghanistan and its opium assault on the West.

And now for this week's survey question:
Democrats, and now some Republicans, are calling for J. Edgar Hoover's name to be removed from the headquarters of the FBI he established. Should Congress pass such a bill?

(1) Yes, Hoover was a rogue who violated people's civil rights.
(2) No, Hoover built the FBI into a leading crime-fighting institution.
(3) We should bring back Hoover's policies, not just protect his name.
(4) Other

THE HALL OF SHAME…
Have Some Chabad Shluchim Betrayed Their Rebbe?

This week's example:
Rabbi Moshe Bogomilsky, Principal, Lubavitch Yeshiva, Brooklyn, NY

A JAHG-USA volunteer showed Rabbi Bogomilsky our Proclamation (declaring the Torah duty for everyone to help defund the PLO) last May 10th. But he bluntly refused, and then upon being pressed, tried to wiggle out by insisting that we go ask other rabbis first. He was abrupt and less than polite in cutting off any further discussion.

Of course, we had already received the endorsement of another principal at the same Lubavitch Yeshiva school system, Rabbi Yosef Simpson, about six weeks earlier. Rabbi Bogomilsky obviously has no excuse. But his motive may rest in the fact that he also heads an alternate beis din (Jewish rabbinical court) in the Crown Heights area of Brooklyn, which he used several years ago in a crude attempt to challenge the authority of the official beis din. It seems he thinks playing political games is the way to success, and he imagines that endorsing a potentially controversial campaign could hamper his efforts.

Terrorism Update:
Here are some more PLO terror attacks funded by the U.S. taxpayer that were conducted, attempted, or threatened this last week:
  • A terrorist threw a Molotov cocktail (a tool used by Communist revolutionaries worldwide) and injured an Israeli soldier.
  • Hezbollah units in Lebanon ("formerly" PLO units) fired Soviet katyusha rockets across the border into Israel, hitting two homes (one destroying a den while parents and their child were in other rooms) and putting four people in shock.
  • A suicide terrorist with the Islamic Jihad (a group supported by Communist Egypt, Syria, and Iran and which operates under PLO coordination) blew himself up at a checkpoint, killing an Israeli soldier and three Arabs and injuring nine others. He was under orders to attack a Hanukkah celebration, but prematurely finished his mission when stopped by the soldier.
  • A terrorist stabbed an Israeli soldier in the neck, injuring him; another tried to stab another soldier nearby.
  • PLO gunmen fired wildly in Rafah (Gaza Strip), murdering a teenage "palestinian" Arab.
  • A group operating under an unknown name (presumably part of the PLO) had earlier kidnapped a 25-year-old British woman and her parents, and now continued to hold all three hostage.
  • PLO-affiliated terrorists fired Kassam missiles from the Gaza Strip into other parts of Israel; two members of the al-Aqsa Brigades (of the PLO's main group Fatah) were killed before they could launch their rocket.
  • The PLO-coordinated Islamic Jihad, the Popular Resistance Committees (under PLO supervision), the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP, a member group of the PLO backed by Communist Syria), and the al-Aqsa Brigades of Fatah (the main PLO group) jointly declared an open war of escalated terrorism against Israel.
  • One hundred PA "police officers," members of the PLO's main Fatah group, chased away foreign observers from the Gaza-to-Egypt crossing, commandeering the area to allow unrestricted smuggling of Russian-provided weapons and bomb materials from Egypt to the PLO.
  • Unknown snipers fired shots at Israeli soldiers at various locations in the West Bank, injuring one.
  • PLO terrorists fired several more missiles from the Gaza Strip, hitting no vital targets.
  • Two suicide terrorists were caught before they could attack their targets.
  • Israeli police discovered that a potential terrorist, caught weeks ago sneaking out of the Gaza Strip, was one of several members of the al-Aqsa Brigades (of the PLO's main group, Fatah) planning suicide bombings against a nuclear reactor, a major bus station, and other targets throughout Israel.

The radio broadcasting run by the PLO-controlled Palestinian Authority (PA) openly calls for terrorism and the murder of both Jews and Arabs. In fact, PA "police" commanders directly and openly assist the armed terrorists who carry out attacks — even from within official PA intelligence headquarters.

The PLO and its PA, of course, receive hundreds of millions of dollars annually from the United States. They are also assisted indirectly by American foreign aid dollars ($2 billion per year) that go to Communist Egypt, which is now providing the PLO and its allied groups with missiles (including many hundreds of anti-tank missiles), thousands of guns, millions of bullets, and almost all of their explosives.

Without heavy foreign financing (mostly from Uncle Sam), the terrorists would not have the weapons, facilities, training, or support networks to coordinate this growing terror war. And that same money is building an infrastructure for future revolution that will involve far more than merely terror attacks. There's no longer any room to stand on the sidelines; the Torah obligates everyone to get involved in JAHG-USA's campaign to defund this terrorist infrastructure.

…AND THE HALL OF FAME
Some Chabad Shluchim Are Helping the JAHG-USA Campaign

This week's examples:
Rabbi Shmarya Katzen, Lubavitch Yeshiva, Brooklyn, NY; and
Rabbi Dovid Kahan, Oholei Torah Mesivta, Brooklyn, NY

Rabbi Katzen was shown a copy of the Proclamation last June 8th and signed it promptly. Being a teacher in the same Lubavitch Yeshiva system in which "refusenik" Rabbi Bogomilsky works as a principal, Rabbi Katzen is one of many rabbis who shame Rabbi Bogomilsky for not participating in the campaign to save lives from terrorism.

Rabbi Kahan likewise read and signed the Proclamation on June 8th. He is a teacher in the high school (mesivta) of the parallel Oholei Torah yeshiva system, which also operates in the Lubavitch headquarters community of Crown Heights. Like Rabbi Katzen, Rabbi Kahan is well-enough educated in Torah to state with authority that the Proclamation and the JAHG-USA campaign are mandatory for all.

Yes, Rabbi Bogomilsky, we have asked other rabbis — many of them. And like Rabbis Katzen and Kahan, they agree that every single Jew (and every gentile, for that matter) is obligated to particpate in defunding the PLO. As the proclamation says (quoting Torah), those who don't participate are guilty of murder.

Nu, Rabbi Bogomilsky?
