"Test Your WWIII-IQ" Contest
Astonishingly, none of the submitted answers to the contest question from two weeks ago were correct. "The FARC's sister terror group in Colombia, the ELN, was also founded in 1964. Which US corporation provided most of the financing that built the ELN in recent years?" Fifteen to twenty years after its creation in 1964, the openly Communist ELN ("National Liberation Army") had been nearly wiped out by the Colombian authorities. At that time Occidental Petroleum, based in Los Angeles, California, began funding what was remaining of the murderous ELN with the millions of dollars that were needed for the ELN not only to be rejuvenated but to become a major terrorist organization that now dominates a large region of Colombia. It was only after Occidental resurrected the ELN out of the ashes that the ELN began to disrupt Occidental's oil pipelines, providing the excuse to "bribe" the ELN with millions of extra dollars. Occidental was founded and headed by Armand Hammer, whose activities as a conscious, dedicated agent of the Soviet Union ever since the Bolshevik Revolution have been documented in Jay Edward Epstein's definitive 1996 book Dossier.
And now for this week's question:
With this year's massive increase in its military budget, which country is expected to become the world's second-biggest military spender, second only to the U.S.? |

Have Some Chabad Shluchim Betrayed Their Rebbe?
This week's example: Rabbi Aron Berkowitz, Chabad of Huntington Beach, California
Rabbi Berkowitz received a copy of our proclamation (calling on all Jews to participate in the campaign to defund the PLO) on January 17, 2003 at 1:38pm. Now more than two years later, we still have not received from Rabbi Berkowitz his endorsement of our urgent campaign to help save Jewish lives by stopping all funding of the PLO. While the U.S. government continues to give (and in fact increase) massive financial assistance to the PLO terrorists attacking Israel and murdering Jews, what is holding Rabbi Berkowitz back from the important mitzvah of endorsing JAHG-USA's campaign to stop the aid? Are concerns about fundraising for his local synagogue interfering with his Torah obligations during this time of crisis for the Jewish people?
This week's role model
Rabbi Phillip H. Singer of Vaad Harabonim, Flatbush, and president of Congregation B'nai Isaac in Brooklyn, NY, signed an earlier version of our proclamation to end funding of the PLO terrorists on June 22, 2001. We applaud Rabbi Singer for stepping forward to fufill the critical mitzvah of helping to save Jewish lives, and we urge all other rabbis to immediately follow his example.

Letters to the Editor
"Which part(s) of the Tanak, Talmud, Kabbalah etc are Noachides allowed to study from? I have heard different answers to this question and would appreciate any thoughts that could be shared."—David
Our response: Indeed, there have been many varying rabbinical opinions on this issue over the centuries. In his sicha [speech] of 11 Nisan 5745 (1985) in which he analyzed the subject in depth from the viewpoint of Hasidus, the Lubavitcher Rebbe concluded that Noachides should not limit their Torah studies only to what pertains directly to the Noachide Laws; rather, they may and should study all parts of the written Torah and its commentaries, as well as most of the Oral Torah—including the Talmud, Midrashim, Hasidus (the core of the Kabalah), etc.—with the exception of those parts that pertain only to the specific mitzvos in which a non-Jew is not allowed to take part. According to the Rebbe, such Torah study by Noachides is not only allowed but required and should be done for the sake of Torah learning in and of itself. On the other hand, idolaters (such as Christians and Buddhists) may study only very limited parts of the Torah.
