"How many Congolese people have the Communists genocidally murdered since coming to power in 1997?" All of the guesses to last week's question were close, and each would have some basis in news reports. As of nearly two years ago, most official sources estimated that at least 4 million Congolese had already been murdered as of early 2003; the International Rescue Committee, for example, counted as many as 4.7 million butchered. But then the propaganda machine roared to life as the Communists, as usual, began covering up their genocide. Without any new or better evidence, official estimates began plummeting to 2.8 million, then 2.5 million, and now an official estimate by the pro-Communist United Nations of 2 million—and even that, they dismissively assure us, was merely the "accidental" result of infighting between militias, not a calculated holocaust. Whatever the true number, it is certainly a bloodbath, and based on the notorious Communist habit of minimizing their mass murder, we assume that the correct total must by now be far higher than the 4.7 million estimate.

Thus we credit TE of southern California with the closest guess—3 million.

This week's example: Rabbi Yitzchok Newman, Hebrew Academy, Huntington Beach, CA

Rabbi Newman, who also runs Congregation Lubavitch in Long Beach, California, received a copy of our proclamation (calling on all Jews to participate in the campaign to defund the PLO) on January 17, 2003, at 8:16am, according to postal records. Even though he has been known to make public demonstrations of concern over terrorism in Israel, he still has not been moved enough to encourage anyone to take any action at all, never mind our campaign to stop U.S. support of the PLO thugs. Indeed, to this very day, he refuses to sign the proclamation. Is the problem fundraising? Is it fear of social disapproval? If he read the proclamation at all, he knows fully well that anyone who knowingly stands by while his fellow Jews die faces severe consequences. His deliberate lack of leadership is certainly a betrayal of the Lubavitcher Rebbe, who sent him.

Our response: We could not agree more. The revolution against Israel does not come from Arabs but from Communists. Indeed, the Arabs in and around Israel (including the "palestinians") have previously been and would once again be quite sympathetic to Israel if only the Israelis would protect them from the PLO terrorists. But with the PLO and other Communists regularly terrorizing and murdering Arab civilians, who find they cannot count on Israel to protect them, it is inevitable that the frightened Arabs now pretend to support the PLO revolution. It is a Jewish responsibility to reliberate the West Bank and Gaza and annihilate the PLO, not only for the sake of Israel but also for the sake of the hostage Arab population.
